After this show, I was given a 8 x 12 gray carpet from the stage. The tour was ending and it was typical for bands to give away items that were no longer needed.  © ROGER BARONE 1978

ERIC CLAPTON/THE SPECTRUM: (April 1, 1978)

I saw four Clapton concerts at the Spectrum. The first one, in the summer of ’74, featured Yvonne Elliman, who also had a hit “If I Can’t Have You.” Clapton was promoting the 461 Ocean Boulevard album. I was standing on a single unit of the staging that was used for the stairway to the stage. The entire band stood on that tier with me. The neck of Clapton’s martin guitar a few inches away from me in the darkness.

Clapton was wearing a green velvet jacket. Later in the night, I saw him backstage and that beautiful jacket was torn all around the back shoulder. He returned in the fall with the same tour. That night, his bus broke down, and about twenty five workers, stagehands, road crew members and spectrum changeover crew members had to push it up out of the tunnel.
