PAUL McCARTNEY & WINGS: THE SPECTRUM (May 14, 1976)

Two nights after McCartney’s concert with Wings,  the Montreal Canadiens, coached by Scotty Bowman,  won the Stanley Cup at the Spectrum. by sweeping the “Broad Street Bullies” 4 – 0.

Canadiens’ goalie, Ken Dryden, dropped his stick  a few feet away from me near the tunnel-side face-off circle, before joining his teammates in celebration. I watched in regret as a quick-thinking friend of mine, and fellow changeover crew member, Tom Sharkey, ran and scooped it up. Sharkey’s prize was just as gratifying as the Canadiens’ Cup clinching. Sharkey eventually was hired to work in the ticket sales department at the Spectrum; he later worled at different venues throughout the area.
